What can we do to protect Japanese mountain villages?

The mountain villages: a valuable resource in decline
Mountain villages play an important role in the development of agriculture, forestry, and fisheries, and they contribute as well to the stability of our lives and economy.
However, mountain villages in Japan are currently facing several problems: declining & aging population, and municipal finances are suffering.
A growing environmental impact
The number of lands that were used for cultivation and which are now abandoned has been increasing nationwide over the past 30 years.
Until 1985, the amount of abandoned lands remained flat at about 130,000 ha, but it began to increase from 1990, and in 2010, 396,000 ha were declared abandoned, which is almost the same as the area of Saitama Prefecture.
Once cultivation ceases for a few years, farmlands become so desolate that they lose their original shape. This abandonment also has effects on the local environment, such as the occurrence of pest and bird damage, overgrowth of weeds, and interference with the management of irrigation and drainage facilities.

How can you help?
Through this project, we will donate a portion of sales to local municipalities, organizations, and schools that are working to reverse this process and revitalize mountain villages.
Thank you in advance for your cooperation.
